Under the Articles of Confederation, how was the federal government structured?

The federal government had minimal power and was unable to exert force over those that were governed. This is due to the fact that the farmers of the Articles of Confederation were afraid of facing another tyrant. Under the Articles, the government was unable to tax and settle state conflicts. There was also only one branch of government.
