Even if a person is in very good shape, applying to be a police officer requires commitment to fitness. Applicants must pass a physical fitness test. In order to prepare for the test, Janet purchases an activity tracker to record her steps. Her goal is to walk 10,000 steps each day. She measures her average step length to be 30 inches. When Janet runs, her average step length increases to 36 inches. How many steps would she have to take to run 1 mile (5,280 feet)? Round to the nearest step.

She would have to run 1760 steps.

Her stride length while running is 36 inches, which is 3 feet. Dividing 5280 feet by 3, we get 1760 steps.
