The length of a rectangle is 3 times its width. if the width is diminished by 1 inch and the length is increased by 3 inches. the area of the the new rectangle is 72 square inches. find the dimensions of the original rectangle.

4 times 18 is 72.

So. going from there

The length is 3 times the width. subtract 3 since this is the new and not the original. you have 15

and the width is diminished by one so you have to add one.

the original dimensions is 5 for the width and 15 for the length.
