Ok so you divide the bill by 2 because you each are paying half. You knock off $4 because you owed him that from last time and you pay $9. So this would equal to b/2 -4 =9. If you work it out in reverse, you get 4+9 which equals 13 then multiplied by 2 which means the total bill was $26.
