Two cab rides cost the same amount for the same number of miles, m. Which situation can be represented by the equation 2.50 + 0.50m = 1.00 + 0.75m?

a. One cab charges an initial fee of $2.50 and then $0.50 for every mile. The other cab company charges an initial fee of $1.00 and then $0.75 for every mile.

b. One cab company charges $3 per mile. The other cab company charges $1.75 per mile

c. One cab charges an initial fee of $0.50 and then $2.50 for every mile. The other cab company charges an initial fee of $0.75 and then $1.00 for every mile

the answer is a, its not b because theren isnt a 3 in the equation and it isnt c because the m(for mile) is after .50 not 2.50

We have been given that two cab rides cost the same amount for the same number of miles, m, this situation can be represented by the equation,

2.50+0.50m=1.00+0.75m

We have to find out which of the given options is true. To answer this question first of all we will interpret our given equation.

On the left side of equation $2.50 represents fixed charges or initial fee and 0.50m represents variable cost.

While on the right side of equation $1.00 represents fixed charges or initial fee and 0.75m represents variable cost.

This equation tells us that after m number of miles both cab rides will have same cost.

Therefore, looking at all the options we can see that option (a) matches to our interpretation
