Gender discrimination is discrimination because someone is male or female. Discrimination in the workplace is not allowed, but many factors do contribute to organizations not wanting to hirer certain genders for different roles. In this case, because Mr. French is a male, he did not get the job.. they are discriminating against him due to him being male.
