When solving using the quadratic formula, what does the discriminant tell you about the nature of the roots?

The discriminate is the part under the square root of the formula and gives you the amount of solutions

If the discriminate is positive there are 2 solutions, if it is 0 there is a single solution and if it is negative then there is no solution (in the real numbers), because the root is not defined for negative numbers
