find the area of both shapes can someone help me I tried one method but I didn't get the right answer

Find the area of the bigger rectangle first
Area = Length x Width
Area = 3 x 7
Area = 21

To find width for the smaller rectangle use subtraction
15 - 7 = 8

Now find area
Area = Length x Width
Area = 8 x 2
Area = 16

Now add areas
21 + 16 = 37
37 is your area
