The answer is Y=8.66

Opposite/adjacent = tangent

Y/5 =tan60
Y= tan60*5
Y= 8.66

Answer:

Using the tangent ratio:

\tan \theta = \frac{\text{Opposite side}}{\text{Adjacent side}}

As per the given diagram:

In right angle triangle ACB:

Side BC = y units and Side AC =5 units

Apply the tangent ratio:

\tan 60^(\circ) =\frac{\text{BC}}{\text{AC}}

Opposite side = BC = y units and Adjacent side = AC = 5 units

Substitute the given values we have;

sqrt{3}=(y)/(5)

Multiply both sides by 5 we have;

5√(3)=y

or

y=5√(3) = 5 \cdot 1.732 = 8.66025 \approx 9

Therefore, the exact value of y is, 9 units
