This group of soldiers were known as Hessians.

Hessians were hired by Great Britain to fight in the Revolutionary War due to a shortage in British soldiers. These soldiers, despite being well trained, cared very little about the cause they were fighting for. This lack of mission resulted in them surrendering easier and being defeated by less trained soldiers in several different battles including the Battle of Trenton.
