How does Aunt polly treat sid different from tom if tom lies
?

Your answer is:

Tom lies more than Sid, so Aunt Polly trusts Sid more than she does Tom. And, judging by the way she treats Sid if he lies, (which he did when he broke the sugar bowl and Tom got the blame) She did not believe that Sid broke the bowl when Tom told her that he did.

Aunt Polly knows that Tom lies. Aunt Polly cannot trust Tom. Sid does not lie. Aunt Polly can trust Sid.
