The equation that we are going to solve for is going to take this form. The original line also takes this form.
This is the slope-intercept form of a line, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.
Since both of the lines are parallel, they must have the same slope. Thus, the value of m is 3 for the new line.


y=3x+b

The line must also pass through the point (-1, 2). Plug in the values of x and y to solve for b.


2=3(-1)+b

2=-3+b

Add both sides by 3


b=5

Now, we have the value for b.
The equation for the parallel line must be the following:


y=3x+5

For a line to be parallel to another line, the slope must be the same.
The line given is y = 3x - 5 , so the other line's slope has to be 3.

so your answer would be A. y = 3x + 5.
