Homogenization refers to the addition of detergents and salt (protease) to separate DNA from the cell membranes and proteins.

Step-by-step explanation:

DNA or the deoxyribonucleic acid is said to be the nucleic martial that is present inside the nucleus of a cell, in order to extract the DNA from the cell, the external membranes have to be broken and the cell contaminants such as the proteins should be denatured and separated out, the detergent breaks the cell membranes whereas the salt precipitates the DNA out.

Homogenization refers to the addition of detergents and proteases to separate DNA from the cell membranes and proteins.

During the DNA extraction from cells, there are a few steps:
1. Cell lysis- Breaking cells to release the DNA (grinding and using detergents which break down the lipids in the cell membrane)
2. Separating DNA from proteins (breaking proteins with proteases) and sometimes from RNA (using RNases)
3. Precipitating the DNA (using cold alcohol, ethanol).
