-------------------------------------
*Assuming BD bisects ∠ABC

(AD)/(DC) = (AB)/(BC)

-------------------------------------
Fid the ratio
-------------------------------------

(AD)/(DC) = (36)/(27)

-------------------------------------
Simplify
-------------------------------------

(AD)/(DC) = (4)/(3)

Given ratio, find CD
-------------------------------------
Ratio of AD : DC = 4 : 3

Given that AC = 42 cm
7 shares = 42 cm

1 share = 42 ÷ 7
1 share = 6 cm

3 shares = 6 x 3
3 shares = 18cm

this may not be a good explanation but
because AB is 36 then AD will be 18
so,
AC-AD=x
substitute
42-18=x
24=x
