You add a pressure bandage to stop bleeding. When you bleed, your brain sends serotonin and a group of histamines that make the blood vessels and capillaries swell to close off blood flow so that the breach in the vessel can properly clot. Adding pressure will increase the swelling of the vessels so that the clot can form easier.
