President Millard Fillmore supported the Compromise of 1850, believing it solved all problems regarding slavery and sectional differences. Of course Henry Clay and Stephen Douglas also supported the Compromise being that they were the ones who proposed it. However, John C. Calhoun did not. He believed that the Constitution justified slavery, and that the Compromise would lead a major dispute or war.
