During the kitchen debate, both Khrushchev and Nixon were making the point that their citizens had the opportunity to have a good life in which they had modern conveniences/amenities. In this impromptu debate, Nixon is showing Khrushchev an example of an American kitchen. While showing the appliances, Nixon mentions how the average American family can afford all the luxuries shown in the picture.
Khrushchev argues that all citizens in the Soviet Union can have this, not just those that fall in the middle class. He discusses how event peasants in the Soviet Union can have these luxuries thanks to their communist system.
