If “A” is a halogen in the formal equation, A + BC -> __, what letter would it be replacing?

Answer is: it would replace letter C.
Halogen elements are fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine, they are nonmetals. In compound BC, letter C represents nonmetal, so nonmetal replaces nonmetal in single replacement reaction.
