What did the Roman Senate do?

The Roman Senate was not elected but was appointed by the consuls or the censors and sometimes magistrates who made up the consuls would become senators as well. The Roman Senate had a lot of political power in the Roman government. They controlled the money, the administration and the details of foreign policy.
