Substances that are polar in nature. There is a principle in chemistry which is expressed as, "like dissolves like". This means that the substances only combines with substances of the same kind. Polar dissolves and combines well with polar and nonpolar dissolves and combines well with nonpolar. The hydrophilic substances should also be polar in nature.
