Well without knowing what y is you will just need to regroup the numbers and variables.
So to do that:
You will need to distribute what's inside the parentheses.

23^(2) - 161y
That's not the greatest but I'm sure you get the point.

Hey there :)

-23y ( y + 7 ) = 0
Here it is not necessary to distribute -23y into the brackets
Why? Because if you open the parenthesis, you will have to factor again to find the possible values of y. The given form is already factored.
Whatever we do, our final value should be 0, so take them separately

-23y = 0 y + 7 = 0
y = 0 y = - 7
