Spilt the triangle into two triangles from the top left hand corner to the bottom right hand corner.

Area of triangle with base 6 = 1/2 x 6 x 12 = 36
Area of triangle with base 1 = 1/2 x 1 x 12 = 6

Total area of the figure = 36 + 6 = 42units²
