The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. I guess he felt betrayed by the situation and was an nationalist or very patriotic. I don't recommend burning documents connecting to Japan. Just because the leader of a country does something doesn't mean that the country is bad, ya know?

Papa decided to burn the documents because he thought that they might have something in connection with the Japan syndicate. The big problem he was non-citizen in America, and he lacked a genuine license. The FBI has also started arresting people terming them as spies.

He had to move his family to an island, but after a while, he was arrested. Papa, however, did not resist the arrest but worked out with dignity while with the two men and was among those who were interrogated.
