I would say that the US and the Soviet Union would eventually end up as two superpowers vying for control of the resources of the world and also for political control with strings attached so both became against the interests of the vast majority of the people. If the Soviet Union had remained true to its socialist ideals I believe that the majority of working class people and peasants would have supported them.
