Mary Breckinridge developed her skills as a nurse midwife in the British Hospital for Mothers and Babies (England).
Mary Breckinridge was one of the first American nurse-midwives. She went to England to train as a nurse midwife since in America no such training was available. She founded the Frontier Nursing Service in 1925 and changed radically the midwifery practices in America. Her efforts resulted in an increase in infant and maternal survival rate.
