Many events that happened in the play have made Claudius experience some emotional and moral conflicts. For example, Ophelia committed suicide by drowning; Polonius was killed by Hamlet; Hamlet went mad and was banished; Laertes returned and people wanted to see him as the new king, instead of Claudius.
