Confucianism was tied to a single state while Islam had spread into many.

Confucianism was only tied to China and as China changed so did their religion. Islam had spread into numerous countries and was more of a general idea than Confucianism which was tied to Chinese people and the Chinese territory. This is why Confucianism started losing power over people while Islam remained the main religion.
