Cherokee suffer on long journey to Oklahoma

Thanks to the Indian Removal Act, passed by Congress and President Andrew Jackson, thousands of Cherokees have been forcibly removed from their homelands. This new law is forcing members of this tribe to move to reserved land in Oklahoma. This long and dangerous journey of over 1,000 miles has resulted in sickness, death, and despair. So much hardship has come from this event that this journey has been named the "Trail of Tears."
