Mikhail Gorbachev

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev was born in1931 and is a Russian former Soviet politician. He was the last leader of the Soviet Union, from 1985 to 1991. He was the country's head of state from 1988 until 1991.
He is most remembered for his policies of glasnost ("openness") and perestroika ("restructuring") that are indicated by many historians as the major contributed to the end of the Cold War.
