The only force that can act on an object in free fall is ?

"Free fall" MEANS that the ONLY force acting on an object is gravity.

If there's any other force on it in addition to gravity, or instead of gravity,
then the object is NOT in free fall.

That means we never see true free-fall ! Whenever we see anything
falling, it's always falling through air. So there's air resistance acting
on it in addition to gravity.
