The molecules that can block genetic expression are called repressor. Repressor is a DNA- or RNA- binding protein that hinders or blocks the expression of one or more genes. A DNA-binding repressor does not permit the attachment of RNA polymerase to the promoter. Therefore, it prevents the transcription of the genes into the messenger RNA.
