If you take a certain number 2.5 times then add 1.75 and divide the result by 0.8, you’ll get 37.5. What was the original number?

Answer:

The original number is 11.3

Explanation:

Let the number is x and then we form the equation to solve it for the value of x.

1- Number is multiplied by 2.5 then it becomes = 2.5x

2- Then we add 1.75 to the expression then new expression will be = 2.5x + 1.75

3- We divide the result by 0.8 then expression will be =
(2.5x + 1.75)/(0.8)

4- Now the final expression is equal to 37.5 so the equation will be

(2.5x + 1.75)/(0.8) = 37.5

Now we multiply 0.8 in both the sides of the equation

(2.5x + 1.75)/(0.8)×0.8 = 37.5×0.8

2.5x + 1.75 = 30

2.5x = 30 - 1.75

2.5x = 28.25

x = 28.25/2.5 = 11.3
