Pyruvate carboxylase is a biotin containing enzyme that catalyse the HCO3 and MgATP dependent carboxylaton of pyruvate to form oxaloacetate. In this reaction biotin is mostly used to provide carboxylation of pyruvate, group transfer from one site of the enzyme to another. It is also used as a long flexible arm for the activesite location of substrates.
