The 19th century independence movements in Latin America were inspired by the rhetoric about the rights and dignity of all human beings that Enlightenment thinkers wrote about.  The American and French Revolutions were inspired by the same freedom-loving writings of philosophical minds such as Locke, Montesquieu, Voltaire and Rousseau.  And the Latin American revolutions began already early in the 19th century (not long after the late 18th-century revolutions in North America and France).  The Mexican-American War, fought from 1846-1848, happened after many of the Latin American revolutions already had occurred.  That's the choice from the list that doesn't fit.
