As an embryo develops ; new cells are produced as a result of mitosis cell division. A series of cell division occurs called cleavage. During cleavage number of cells increases without increasing the size of the cell. An embryo divides into a number of smaller cells called blastomeres. An embryo with blastomeres is called balstula.
