The option that was not used in the South to promote segregation and limit the rights of blacks is crop subsidies. An agricultural subsidy is a government incentive given to some farmers to increment their income. These subsidies were given only to white farmers in the South. Jim Crow laws mandated racial segregation in all public facilities. Paying of the poll taxes was a way of limiting vote for many blacks. Literacy tests were applied to most blacks in the South.
