Try this way:
S=S₁-S₂, where S - area of the figure, S₁ - area of the triangle, S₂ - area of the quadrangle.
S=0.5*(5+2)*(5+4)-2*4=31.5-8=23.5 in.²

Answer: 23.5 in.²
