Brian was having mixed emotions upon seeing the moose, Joy, because Brian will be having s large stock of meat if ever he made the kill. But then, afraid that He might not be able to kill him instantly since this will be his very first time to hunt on bigger animals and using his self made bow and arrow and lance.

The scene describes hunting the mouse in winter. Brian wants to hunt the mouse because it is winter and the tracks are easy to notice. Although he has some meat left, Brian decides to hunt. Actually, he had these mixed emotions because of the winter and how its beauty bewitches him. In other words, how it distracts his attention from hunting.
