What factors encouraged the development of a totalitarian government in the Soviet Union?

The whole country was at a disarray. The Nobles and the King had too much power over the workers and the farmers and they were constantly at a strife with each other. The totalitarian government came as a response to this because they wanted to introduce a system that would end the problems through strict control of all aspects of statehood.
