The shaded part represents 1/4 of the whole square, of which the area is 4/4 (1) ft^2. So, you need to find out 1/4 of 4/4. This can be done by doing 4/4 × 1/4 = 4/16 = 1/4. Therefore, the smareaof the shaded square is 1/4 ft^2.
