What is a major economic issue in Mexico today? Is this an issue in the USA?

Mexico seems to start having kind of the same issues Venezuela has been having so far, that means more presence of the Estate in economic affairs. If we take a look at Venezuela's case, we'll see that such presence ended up by taking control of product supply and therefore a substancial takeover of private industries.
