D. The boy drowning is mentioned in both the poem and pictured in the painting. In William's poem, the last stanza includes the line "this was Icarus drowning". In Bruegel's painting, in the bottom right hand corner we see two legs coming up out of the water. We can infer that this is the image of the drowning boy, Icarus, that the poem also includes.
