Kelly ran 2 miles and burned 240 calories. The next day she ran 3 miles and burned 360 calories. The next day 4 miles and 480 calories. If this pattern continues, how many calories will she burn if she runs 8 miles?

960 calories, because every mile increase increases the calories burned by 120, so on the 8th day she would run 8 miles, and therefore burn 960 calories because 120*8=960. Remember to make sure yourself.
Hope this helps :)

Hello!

So we know there's a pattern, and that it is increasing. But what is it increasing by?

Well, take a look:

240 + 120 = 360

360 + 120 = 480

This means that the pattern is increasing by 120 each mile. Simply continue adding 120 to each mile. (Or, Multiply 120 by 8)

5 miles = 600 calories

6 miles = 720 calories

7 miles = 840 calories

8 miles = 960 calories

Answer:

Kelly will burn 960 calories if she runs 8 miles.
