Umayyad dynasties tend to prevent military approach in expanding their influences since they possess a large population with reliable millitary strength.
Abbasid dynasties on the other hand, mostly took a non-confrontational approach. In order to expand their influences, they make their territory as a center of knowledge/education for around the world, developing their technologies, and improving their trades.
