Why do you think spending waking time in bed might interfere with the ability to fall asleep faster?

As humans, we are creatures of habit and much of this is due to subconscious trial and error experiments repeating over and over. Waking time in bed could possibly create a disconnect (bed/horizontal --- no sleep) when later then trying to actually fall asleep.
