The Boston Tea Party occurred because the British Parliament imposed the Tea Act of 1773. They were attempting to help the East India Tea Company that was quickly going into financial ruin. The Sons of Liberty and Samuel Adams did not agree to paying taxes without any form of representation. So They snuck on board of the British ship and managed to toss over 300 chests full of the tea into the harbor.
