Factor the expression: x^2+x-30

Find two numbers that multiply to -30 and add to 1, so -5 times 6 is -30 and -5 plus 6 is 1.

The factors would look like (x-5)(x+6).

x^2+x-30 is a quadratic equation. So we can solve by using many methods, most common and easiest being factoring and quad formula. Here we can just factor. So we get

(x-5)(x+6) meaning then x=5 and x=-6
