The person may have choking and beverage burns. They may also not be able to talk very well.

The role of epiglottis is to seal off the windpipe while swallowing food. This will prevent solid substances from entering the respiratory tract. Therefore, in a situation where the epiglottis does not function properly, solid substances might enter the windpipe and this might cause chocking
