Mathematics is not my strong suit for this one. I would appreciate your solutions to this answer.

Plane A was 26,000 feet in the air and descending at a rate of 2800 feet per minute. Plane B took off from the ground ascending at 2400 feet per minute. Write an equation to represent the height (y) of each plane in terms of the number of minutes (x). At how many minutes will the planes be the same height, and what is that height?

Answer: After five minutes the plane is at 10,000. feet.

Explanation:

f = feet above ground

r = rate of descent

m = minutes

f = 30000 - r · m

f = 30000 - 20000m

After five minutes:

f = 30000 - 2000(5)

f = 30000 - 10000

f = 20000
