A process of two substances being transported across a membrane in the same direction is called symport.
This process is carried out by membrane proteins called the symporters. These proteins are integral parts of the bilayer lipid membranes that facilitate the transport between the inner and outer side of the cell. The most famous symporter transports a sodium ion (Na+) and a glucose molecule together.
